Memorial Scholarship Program

History:

The idea to establish RSM’s memorial scholarship giving program was birthed from a discussion with the family of Jason Sybert. As a way to preserve his memory in a way that would have a meaningful and tangible impact on others, a campaign was established that would provide scholarships for students. Friends and family of Jason generously contributed to this cause. Moving forward, we felt that contributing a scholarship would be a way to honor someone’s legacy who delighted in creating positive change in the lives of others.

Purpose:

When a student enters our program, he/she will be expected to complete courses following a Biblical-based curriculum as well as job skill training, some of which result in a student obtaining a G.E.D., license, certificate or other credential to make them competitive in the workforce. The cost of these course materials, fees, training, related exams, certification and salaries of the trainer(s) can be significant. In addition, room and board is provided for students for one year as they complete the program. Because of the generosity of RSM’s ministry partners and donors, the cost to a student is kept at a minimum. The student portion for this tuition is due upon intake. Unfortunately, not every student has the means to pay this tuition at intake and must rely upon outside sources or agree to pay once they start earning money with the program once they are promoted to leader. Ideally, the student should be saving for successful re-entry and transition and post-program goals. If scholarship funding is available, a student in need could be supported with those funds which could minimize or even eliminate the student portion of tuition due at intake.

How will my loved one be remembered?

Once you give to this fund, you will fill out the information form below with the information you desire to contribute about your loved one. A virtual memorial wall will be soon added below where it will be noted that a scholarship was established in their name. Timmy Lawson

This scholarship is in memory of Timmy Lawson who was an amazing young man! His father shares the story below about how Timmy found Jesus.

“I remember the last time Timmy had to go to the hospital because of his addiction. He was so bad he couldn’t even walk. He had endocarditis, and the doctors told him if he didn’t stop he wasn’t going to be alive much longer. That’s when he met Jesus.
Over the next few weeks I saw an amazing transformation in his life. All he wanted to do was to help others who had addictions. He met with pastor Randy Camper at The Gathering Place Church and started leading a group called Living Free. This group helped others who were dealing with addictions.”

On January 20, 2021 at the age of 33, Timmy left this earth for his heavenly home. He would be deeply honored to know that we are continuing the fight against addictions by helping others who are fighting battles just like he did.
